When to Replace your Cabinets

Should I replace or reface? That is a question that crosses most homeowners minds when it comes to remodeling their kitchen.

Everyone has a different reason for remodeling and depending on your reasons, replacing might be a suitable option for you. Here are three reasons why you should replace your cabinets:

Your cabinets are damaged or just old.

Are your cabinets showing signs of water damage inside? Are your cabinets old and getting to the end of their run? If the answer is yes to either of those questions, it might be time to replace your cabinets. In this case, refacing would be a short-term solution to a long-term problem.

You want to customize your cabinets and/or kitchen.

Maybe you want to add more cabinets in your kitchen or you want a larger sink or appliance.

Whatever the case, semi-custom and custom cabinets give homeowners a lot of flexibility. When you choose to go this route, not only do you have the option to choose everything from your door style to finish, but you have the option to add that larger sink or oven because the cabinets are made to your specifications.

You want a more functional kitchen.

Much like the design customization, you have flexibility in choosing what goes into your cabinets, which also means no more blind base cabinets. From deep drawers to lazy susans, semi-custom and custom cabinets will allow you to choose your style and functionality.

As always, we encourage all homeowners to do their research before making any big decisions. Talk to contractors that specialize in refacing and talk to contractors that specialize in replacing. Most importantly, do your research on a contractor before hiring them for your job.
