Bath Safety Month

Aging-in-Place Remodel and Bath Safety

January is Bath Safety Month. In recognition of this, we want to emphasize the importance of designing a bathroom that will help prevent accidents in the bathroom. This is often referred to as an aging-in-place remodel.

If you’re thinking about remodeling, consider these safety tips as part of your project:

Grab Bars

Grab bars are one of the most common installations in the shower area for a good reason: they can prevent accidental slips and falls.

Believe it or not, grab bars can also be stylish. They come in different finishes, colors and designs. Some even double as storage for your shampoo bottles!

Lighted Toilet Seats

Finding your way to the toilet at night can be a challenge, especially if you do not have any night lights to guide you. One of our favorite solutions to this is a lighted toilet seat. Lighted toilet seats have an LED guiding light that will safely guide you to the toilet in the darkest of bathrooms.

Bonus: most lighted toilet seats won’t require any special installation because it runs on batteries!

Taller Toilets (Comfort Height)

Comfort height toilets are ideal for the elderly and disabled as well as for people who may have an injury or limited mobility.

Install a Shower Seat

Shower seats are great for a number of reasons: they’re convenient for shaving your legs or having a place to put your shampoo bottles and they look great in any design.

They are also a great addition for those that have limited mobility. If you have an injury that prevents your from standing, a shower seat is perfect. If you are in a wheelchair, the shower seat is also the perfect addition because it allows you to be transferred into the shower safely.

Remember: if you are opting for a custom shower design, shower seats can be customized to your liking and needs.
